Highly disordered (forest) SiO2 nanowires (NWs), obtained by oxidizing SiNWs, have been decorated with metal (Au, Ag) nanoparticles (NPs). These hybrid structures combine strong scattering properties and optical transparency of SiO2 NWs, with the absorption resonances of the covering material, allowing a fine tuning of light trapping in selected frequency ranges. Light management in these structures is an effective way to enhance manifold light-matter interactions, allowing for broader performing biosensing.
The research activity hs been carried out in collaboration with Lecce Unit.
